In 2017, the TechForce Foundation began extensive research into the supply of postsecondary automotive technician completers and demand for new entrant automotive technicians. These reports produced hard numbers that proved what many in the automotive service industry already knew. There is a real and significant shortage of trained automotive techs entering the automotive service industry.
From 2019 through 2022 the shortage of trained technicians is predicted to averages 36,000 techs/year.
The automotive service industry is currently faced with unprecedented training challenges and unprecedented challenges call for unprecedented solutions. It is now time for automotive repair facilities to develop and implement in-house training and mentoring programs.
The Automotive Essentials Course offered by Gearhead School was developed specifically to address this need.
